Mbororo Lives Also Matter




The Ambazonia crisis is spiraling into uncontrollable dimensions with previously peaceful populations being targeted by armed groups. The Justice and Dignity Campaign which advocates for the rights and protection of Mbororos has documented serious cases of violations against the minority group.

The latest for such victimization occurred on 16th February 2020. The voice has received pictures of the gruesome murder of young Mbororo men and wounded women by attackers believed to be Ambazonia fighters. The Justice and Dignity Campaign states that the a “Mbororo family was “killed by Ambazonia separatists on 16th February 2020 in their home, while they were performing their morning prayers at 5.30am in Mbui-Mbem, Nwa Sub Division” in northwest Cameroon.

Those killed are named as Yusufa Kafoi, his son Hasan Yusufa Kafoi, and Issa Yusufa Kafoi; his sons Hassan Yusufa Kafoi and Issa Yusufa Kafoi and Adamu Yaya Djibo and Muktaru Sule. “May Allah forgive the dead and protect the living” concludes a note from an authority of the Justice and Dignity Campaign.




Hundreds of Mbororos have been displaced form other parts of the troubled northwest region where Mbororos say they have been unfairly targeted by kidnappings for ransom. Many of them have lost their lives or maimed for life. In some extreme cases, their cattle have simply seen wasted and their homes burnt down. Many of these abuses have gone unreported perhaps giving a false impression that Mbororo lives don’t matter. How wrong this is.
