TO: H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat
Chairperson, AUC

FROM: Ambassador Arikana Chihombori Quoa

SUBJECT: Response to letter of termination of contract

I have received Your Excellency’s letter dated 7 October 2019 and acknowledge the same although I have to reflect on it before I accept your decision.

I also note with gratitude that your Excellency’s letter takes note of the hard work, commitment and the diaspora and acknowledges that in a short span, I have unreservedly employed great passion and commitment and converted the Washington DC Mission from a Protocol Office that I inherited barely 3 years ago to a world class respected, vibrant and result oriented Mission of the African Union. I thank you Sir for the support I received from yourself as the Chairperson all Commissioners, Directors and staff of the Commission as well as all the Organs of the AU and specialized agencies.

Given that your Excellency’s decision has been made abruptly and towards the end of my term and without prior notice: I am sure your office has made the necessary arrangements to pay salary of US$195,000 for the balance of my term (1st November 2019 to 28th February 2021) and also 3 month salary in lieu of notice of US$39,000 alongside my other separation benefits by 31 October 2019, or whatever these payments will be made to facilitate a smooth handover. I would ask that my health benefits also continue for six months i.e. from 1 November 2019 till 31 May 2020.

I can assure you Sir, that as soon as I receive my dues, I will be ready to hand over, I would be the last person to stand in the way of a smooth transition as I wish to protect the great image of the entire African Union in the diaspora and in DC which I have helped rebuild.

In the meantime, I wish to reserve my acceptance of your decision until I receive written confirmation that the outstanding dues are well as my separation entitlements are ready. I look forward to working closely with your office during this short time when it behoves us to manage the transition without compromising the image of our mother body and as well as my persona.

Respectively,
