The Price of Political Obstinacy

The pressure of the United States on the government of Cameroon is getting more and more intense. A month after the suspension of Cameroon from the agoa, they come back in force, like a terrible reminder.

Us Under-Secretary of state in charge of Africa Tibor Nagy explained that the people around biya and him make a military victory are wrong, because according to him, there will be no military victory at the NOSO. He also asked for the government to engage in real negotiations with secessionist forces, including a solution that satisfy the English-speaking moderate. Asking for the transfer of power to the English-speaking people, he tacitly threatened to support secessionist, remembering that in the face of the regime’s stubbornness, some anglophones who felt authentic cameroonians now prefer separation.

This gentleman we saw in the company of the secessionist is not at his first exit against biya’s regime. Following the fall of Omar Bashir from Sudan, he said the following on the list was biya.

It’s not good when a power like the USA is against you! And When Americans insist on a case, it means that serious things can start at any time. Because they are not bluff! And no matter the moral of others: they obey their morality to them and not to that of their victims. And this terrible morality is the ratio of strength, dressed with their “Democratic values”.

Those who wanted to play smart with it felt it in their flesh: among the most recent, Gaddafi with a ball in the skull, and many others have suffered it in the worst way! South Sudan and eritrea became independent when the USA decided!

And all this, in front of China, Russia and other powers on which they will have their crazy hopes! But also in front of the packs of pseudo-Patriots who pushed their government to mistake, denounced the real patriots who called for prudence and reason, plastronnaie to on the weapons they will take to fight the Americans, but took the leg in Their neck from the first bomb, at the very moment we were immolate the leaders that they claimed to support or that we were supporting their country.

Since 1961, Cameroon has always had a good attitude of caution, avoiding to present itself as an enemy of a foreign country. It was the right attitude, because a pot of land carefully avoid the land that iron pots.

But since the English-speaking problem, we have changed the paradigm to enter direct confrontation with the powers that matter.

An internal problem that we could have solved in-House, with a bit of modesty! But driven by radical ideologues and stubborn leaders, we have wasted every opportunity to make peace. Applying the tired techniques of another time, we thought we could avoid the necessary reforms of our own state by preventing others and especially Americans the political destabilization of Cameroon.

Some have tried a distraction by saying, ” Americans are behind the ambazonian terrorists! ” “

As if it was an argument!

Of course this support is possible! It’s even likely! But when you said that, what problem did you solve? You discouraged Americans from supporting secessionist? By the way, if Americans are with them, it clearly means they are smarter than the government! Our government simply has no intelligence, because how can we put ourselves on a power like the USA? This reflects a lack of judgment!

Others hope that France will support them. But France is not even worth the state of California and it does not make the slightest weight in front of the USA. Of course, the USA has always worked France in its former colonial lands and has always let it act as it wishes. But the English speakers are not an old French Colony! So there is no hope that the usa will let france impose its solutions in a colony that was not his own! All that France can do is let go of English speakers who are not part of its former colonial empire, and remain impose its order on French-speaking Cameroon!

For 3 years, we have said and said that Cameroon did not have the political, economic, financial and diplomatic means to overcome the English-speaking civil. And we strongly recommended to proclaim the Federation, the only way to remove the very powerful argument on which they rely to justify their action: ” they came to French-speaking people on the basis of a federal state. This Federation has been deleted in a fraudulent way. They don’t want the unity state anymore! The government refused to return to the Federation, they took the weapons! ” “

In this form, it is impossible for the government to make its thesis in the eyes of the powers of the world. Indeed, in an environment where the most stable and powerful countries are precisely federal countries, to whom can he accept his thesis of the united state that would better ensure national unity? The people they try to convince are the living testimonies of the power and unity of a federal state! Who’s going to convince who with his unit state?

Second, in the current world, any removal of autonomy of a people appears as a breach of the rights of peoples to manage themselves, and above all, the major indicator of repressive and dictatorial systems. So we don’t see very well how the government of Cameroon can pass as a country of human rights and freedom when it tries to prevent the debate on federalism and claims that the form of the state is not negotiable!

This phenomenon is getting worse with the nature of the current regime in Cameroon. For legitimate reasons or not, the power of biya has already put 37 years with an officially 86-Year-old head of state. It’s not this kind of regime that western countries listen with amenity. Spontaneously, with bad a priority, they are very ill willing to listen to the arguments of such systems, no matter how well they are.

That’s to say the government has managed this case wrong. The removal of the federation was a fault, and even if it could be said that it was for good reasons, it is not enough to justify the fault, because, as they say, hell is paved with good intentions. Intelligence would have ordered to return to a renovated Federation, in a way to present the episode of the unity state as a transitional passage between the old federation based on colonial referrals to a new federation based on local cultural referrals.

The English-speaking problem was finally solved, and at the same time, the more general problem of cameroonian diversity, which is maintaining an increasingly explosive inter-community tension.

But instead of following this intelligent solution, the regime has become a part of the political postures and child patriotism that only made the situation worse. Refusing to take the real measure of the English-speaking problem, a symptoms of the radical failure of his unit state and his national units, he spent his time in tack, believing he was saving time. First, by denying the problem with speech in the official media, with an insolence that will lead to provocation! Then, trying to prevent the debate on federalism!

As long as they believed in weapons, it was not even possible that they could accept any concession. But this concession, this recognition of the English-speaking problem, they ended up doing it, under pressure from the ambazonians weapons that they naively expected to reduce in a week with a squad of police, as well as the international community.

But the worst is ahead! The famous great national dialogue on which we founded all expectations gave birth to a mouse. The secessionist have rejected the resolutions and continue their bloody attacks in a more fierce way. More than ever, return dead and dead cities remain rigorous. And even abroad, this dialogue has had no positive echo with the powers that matter, and who demand to continue the dialogue initiated by Switzerland, where the secessionist who also benefit from great sympathy for their cause.

In reality, Cameroon is going to a two-State Confederation, and there is almost nothing left to prevent this terrible evolution. A Confederation in which the president will have almost no power in the English-speaking zone, with an army that will be shared in two, a budget in two, the oil that supports 40 % external revenue and 25 % the State budget by 2.

This is also the price of stubbornness. Biya’s regime has been 37 years, and like all the regime that has gone too long, he lost all sense of caution and ended up believing that he will be able to escape all the adversities with ruse, decay and Small steps.

It is possible that the English-speaking problem is the end. And that through their logic, they end up losing power, freedom and even life.
