WHO’s Medical Imperialism

The Race to develope a Covid-19 Vaccine today, is similar to the competition among world powers in the early 2000s to develope a vaccine for Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). After more than 15 years of research, none of these cuntries have been able arrive at any medical discovery or vaccine against the SARS.

With the surging number of COVID-19 related deaths across the world, why will the W.H.O not consider giving a clinical trial of Madagascar’s covid-19 organics and get it approved for global consumption if proven medically effective?

If everyone were to adhere to the advice and directives of the W.H.O, then countries with weak health systems will suffer the most devastating consequences as they continue to wait for a vaccine from the West.

The world’s denial of the Malagasy discovery is a clear illustration of a system of medical imperialism we have been subjected to, with those we say are equal members with us at the World Health Organization. A virus that started in China now poses a serious threat to every aspect of public life across the globe.

The “New normal” that the world is facing, poses the urgent need for countries to focus on developing robust domestic health systems, investing in scientific research while trusting in local and traditional remedies. This will go along way to mitigate overdenpency on the science of the west.
