That French MPs letter to the UN – Social Critic Achiri Atanga Critical View

When I read the letter written by the French Member of Parliament asking his country representative at the UN to support a UN fact finding mission in the Southern Cameroons, I have two things in mind

  1. The French are beginning to see that America is getting serious in obtaining justice and has big interest in the Cameroons and may end up being the game changer. To the French, this maybe a slap in their face since America has proven in several occasions that they can act unilaterally. Thus pretend that they support the bill for a fact finding mission then delay any unilateral decision from America.

2. Get involved in the fact finding mission as a team player and destroy the results from within. Of course France knows that in a situation where America presents this to the UN, they may have huge support from member countries and some allied powers. In this case the absence of France will be detrimental to their foreign policy regarding Cameroun given that if real figures are presented it may tilt the position of several countries in respect to the independence of Southern Cameroons. This is a similar case with Eritrea.

It is not time for Southern Cameroonians to be jubilating that France may push a motion in the UN for our favor. French policies and actions must be taken with a pintch of salt. Come to think of it, the idea to dismantle the federation was a a French idea handed to Ahidjo. We have seen newspaper headlines with Mitteran encouraging Cameroun to use the military to quell any Anglophone nationalism. Biya is covered by France and France continues to arm Cameroon soldiers to kill in the Southern Cameroons.
